Alison HIcks & Associates, PLLC specializes in high conflict family law matters.
Divorce
Sometimes people grow apart and want to divorce.
It can be a very emotional time for many people; the confusing legal terms and processes are not easily understood and can compound the difficulties of the situation.
In a divorce, the main issues are dividing the property acquired during the marriage and figuring out how to handle the custody of the children.
- Uncontested Divorce - In many cases, the parties are able to reach an agreement on these things and the divorce can be relatively simple.
- Contested Divorce ("High-Conflict Divorce") - In cases where there is more property at stake or there are concerns about the other party as a parent, the issues can become more complicated and the divorce can take time or require multiple court appearances.
Pre-Nup Divorce
Even if you have signed a pre-nupital, the agreement may not have thoroughly addressed all issues. There may be topics still left for negotiations or topics that can make the divorce even easier. You will not know what options or vulnerabilities are still open until you seek your own legal counselor that can advocate for you.
